Businesses On Wheels

What comes to mind when you think of mobile businesses? Ice cream trucks, food trucks, coffee carts, or something activity related – equipment hire, or pony rides perhaps?

Council currently licenses 4 sites along the Bayside foreshore to mobile vendors. We receive many enquiries from operators interested in a permit for their mobile business, and occasionally, we receive reports of unlicensed vendors operating in Bayside.

The popularity and quality of mobile businesses have risen in recent years. With the increased interest, Council has identified the opportunity to establish a new mobile business policy. This will formalise a framework to guide decision-making about additional mobile vending locations and services on Council land.

The Activation of Council Land Policy aims to offer additional services to complement the ways our community are already using open spaces, in locations away from major shopping areas and existing services. The policy will establish the principles and intent for commercial activity, outline processes for establishing registered mobile vending sites at specific locations, and guide application processing.

We’re seeking your input to help shape the draft policy. Tell us the locations where you would like to see new mobile businesses and share your ideas about the types of services you’d like to see operating in these new locations.
