Cabin Crew Training Takes Flight in Territory

NT Government

8 April 2022

The first 30 Territorians to graduate from a new cabin crew training program will now enter the aviation sector and help ease critical workforce shortages.

The Cabin Crew Preparation Course recently commenced and will see hundreds of Territorians complete a four week course and become ready to fill cabin crew positions with regional airlines, including Alliance Airlines and Airnorth.

The aviation industry has been one of the hardest hit by COVID-19 however, our regional airlines are experiencing exponential growth with the easing of restrictions and borders reopening.

The Territory Government has invested $342 000 into its pre-employment training program to help Territorians find work and ensure key sectors continue to deliver.

The pre-employment training program is designed to give Territorians practical skills to help them get a job, apprenticeship or traineeship in occupations experiencing skill shortages or those that are hard to fill.

Aviation Australia delivers the course with $117 000 of funding from the Territory Government’s pre-employment training program.

The course is designed to prepare students for each stage of the cabin crew recruitment process and includes First Aid and Responsible Service of Alcohol qualifications, which are required for all Australian Cabin Crew roles.

Students were given hands on training in handling emergencies such as evacuations, fires and first aid along with security and customer service.

Thirty Darwin-based students successfully graduated from the first and second intake of the course. They will now go on to undertake cabin crew recruitment with local airlines.
