The Queensland Parliament will meet next year in Cairns.
The Parliament will temporarily relocate to the newly expanded and refurbished Cairns Convention Centre, from the 9th to the 11th of May, 2023.
It will be the second time outside Brisbane since the Palaszczuk Government’s 2017 commitment to reintroduce regional sittings.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Townsville sitting of Parliament in 2019 was a great success.
“Regional sittings are important,” the Premier said.
“Queensland is a big state.
“Regional sittings are a valuable opportunity especially for school children to see the house in operation from the public gallery.
“And I know it will be welcomed by the local MPs – the Member for Cairns Michael Healy, the Member for Barron River Craig Crawford and the Member for Cook Cynthia Lui.
“And especially Mr Speaker, the Member for Mulgrave Curtis Pitt.”
“The people of Cairns and the far north deserve their chance to see the Parliamentary process, up close and in person.”
