Brimbank Council is bringing the Giving Tree Program to the community again this year. The program provides an opportunity for community members to donate non-perishable goods to help people who might be struggling at this time of the year.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said the Giving Tree Program is one of the ways we’re helping bring hope where it is needed most in our community.
“This is a great way to give back to the community and make a difference for people who might be doing it tough at this time of the year.
“Because of COVID-19, things are a little different this year. We’re making it as convenient as possible and asking people to drop off items directly to local charities in Brimbank. Your direct donation will help local agencies distribute items to people who need a helping hand this year.
“This is a great way for residents, organisations and Council staff to get involved and let others know you care, especially as Christmas approaches.
“The Giving Tree Program is needed more than ever before as many families and community members will be experiencing hardship following the impacts of COVID-19.
Poverty and severe hardship affects more than a million Australians particularly at certain times of the year like Christmas, and Brimbank is the second most disadvantaged municipality in Melbourne.
“Next time you’re out shopping, please consider picking up some items and dropping them off at our local Brimbank charities.
“The Giving Tree Program is a very practical and helpful way to get behind a worthy cause in the lead up to the festive season,” Cr Rasic said.
The program is up and running throughout November and December 2020.
We will gratefully accept any non-perishable goods. Suggested items to donate are:
- Tinned beans
- Rice, dry beans and pulses
- Vegetable oil, peanut butter, or other nut butters
- Rolled oats
- Canned fruit or vegetables
- Packet soups
- Canned tuna in water
- Tea or coffee
- Dishwashing liquid
