Call for Volunteers Week nominations

Devonport City Council Tasmania

Devonport volunteers will have the chance to be officially recognised for their contribution to the community, for this year’s National Volunteers Week from16-22 May.

Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff called for members of the public to nominate local volunteers that give their time selflessly to the city of Devonport.

Cr Rockliff said to celebrate the volunteers within the community, Council will again provide certificates of recognition.

“Volunteers Week is an opportunity to celebrate every helping hand that makes a difference in Devonport,” Cr Rockliff said.

“As Mayor I have been lucky to see firsthand the benefit of volunteers both for organisations and individuals. And as this year’s Volunteers Week theme suggests, we truly are ‘better together’.”

Devonport Community House Manager Kate Beer said volunteers play an important part in neighbourhood houses.

“Neighbourhood houses are able to offer what they do for their community because we have a core of volunteers meeting and greeting, sharing their skills, listening and empathising, and caring enough to make the ordinary day-to-day lives of people feel a little more special.

“It’s our community’s greatest asset.

Volunteers are amazing, they give of their passions with their time and energy and all of us get to enjoy their kindness in action – it’s a win-win!”

Cr Rockliff said the certificates of recognition are available to volunteers who reside, or volunteer within the Devonport municipality and have contributed service in the last 12 months.

Nominations close 5pm on Monday, 2 May and can be made via Council’s website at: www.devonport.tas.gov.au/council/forms-and-payments/volunteer-week/

If you have more than a few volunteers, please upload to the form a list in excel or word. Your organisation will be contacted when the certificates are ready for collection from Council’s Customer Service counter, Level 2, paranaple centre, 137 Rooke Street, Devonport.
