Calling all community groups that involve local seniors

Swan Hill Rural City Council is calling on local community groups that involve local seniors, to get in contact.

Council’s Community and Cultural Services Director Bruce Myers said Council was seeking to partner with local community groups to recognise local seniors, during the 2023 Victorian Seniors Festival celebrations.

“The Victorian Seniors Festival is a major state-wide festival for and involving seniors, with an emphasis on fun and good times – it takes place every October right across Victoria,” Mr Myers said.

Social Support Leader Carolyn Harrop said she looked forward to Seniors’ Festival every year.

“It is a really fun way to celebrate the contribution that older people make to our community and give them some real opportunities to get together and socialize.

“We are currently in the process of preparing an impressive line-up of events in October, but we want to ensure that we are capturing events other local groups are planning,”

“Activities include a regional tour and a special event at the Swan Hill Town Hall, she said.

Ms Harrop said to ensure the festival was as successful as it could be, she was seeking to partner with other local groups that were planning or hosting events.

“The emphasis is on offering opportunities for senior people to socialize – we want to encourage people to get out and continue to do the things that they love.

“Council would be delighted to partner with local groups and spread the message about activities and events available to our local seniors, this year,” Ms Harrop said.
