The Council of Capital City Lord Mayors (CCCLM) welcomes the Albanese Government’s focus on cities and communities in the 2023-2024 Federal budget.

CCCLM Chair Sally Capp said the Budget showed there was strong Federal support for capital city growth and investment.

Cr Capp highlighted the $211.7 million grants program for community infrastructure, Thriving Suburbs, and the $159.7 million Urban Precinct Partnerships, which provides investment support for place-based priorities in urban communities.

“These programs will boost opportunities for our councils to grow and strengthen their communities. Thriving Suburbs will deliver much-needed infrastructure projects that matter to the community. Urban Precinct Partnerships allow for large-scale transformation projects that will shape our cities for the future,” Cr Capp said.

“Continuing funding for the Cities and Suburbs unit within the Department of Infrastructure sends a clear signal that our cities have the ongoing support of the Commonwealth.”

The CCCLM looks forward to working with the Federal Government on the development of Australia’s National Urban Policy and partnering with State/Territory and Federal government to deliver welcomed projects for the benefit of the communities we represent.

CCCLM is also pleased that the Budget includes cost of living support, including increases in the rates of Commonwealth Rental Assistance and JobSeeker as well as energy price relief and upgrades measures which will provide some alleviation to those experiencing housing stress, “the CCCLM has long called for an increase in these rates, these increases will provide some much needed relief for those most vulnerable in our communities,” said Sally Capp.
