Carer charged over alleged sexual assault of young girl in the Riverina, NSW

A carer has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in his care and the production of child abuse material.

Earlier this month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a 10-year-old had been sexually assaulted by her carer at a home in the Riverina.

Following investigations, a 79-year-old man was arrested by detectives at Wagga Wagga Police Station about 3.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 January 2019).

He was charged with four counts of child under 14 used in production of child abuse material, two counts of aggravated incite sexual act with a child aged 10-16, aggravated sexual intercourse with a child aged 10-14, sexual touching of a child aged 10-14, incite sexual act for production of child abuse material, and bestiality.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Wednesday 16 January 2019), where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Wednesday 27 March 2019.

Alternate care arrangements have been made by the Department of Family and Community Services.

Investigations are continuing.
