Carinity staff, residents, students and clients have been celebrating the organisation’s 70th anniversary at special birthday events across Queensland.
It was a 1950s theme for the party at Carinity Fairfield Grange aged care in Townsville with staff dressing up in outfits from the era. Residents enjoyed hamburgers, fries and milkshakes for lunch and banana splits for dessert. Residents were entertained with live music from Rockin’ Ray.
At Carinity Education Rockhampton, students and staff also had a dress-up day. To celebrate 70 years of Carinity, the theme of the day was to dress in the fashion of a decade from the last 70 years. Costumes from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s were well represented.
Timed to celebrate both Carinity’s 70th birthday and Queensland Seniors Week, Carinity Karinya Place aged care in Laidley held its annual Seniors Night. Residents were dressed to impress at the Puttin’ on the Ritz soirée featuring supper and live entertainment by Charles Cooper.
A combined morning tea for residents and staff was held at Carinity Clifford House aged care community in Brisbane. Clifford House’s longest residing current resident of 15 years, Jock Findlay, and the longest serving staff member of 32 years, Leti Asi, cut a 70th birthday cake together.
Clifford House was Carinity’s first “home for the aged”, opening in historic Farrington House in Alderley on 15 August 1949. As demand for the service grew, Clifford House twice relocated and now has a home in Wooloowin.
