Case Study: How NBN is revolutionising modern saleyards

Steve Davidge is the Assistant Manager at Corangamite Regional Livestock Exchange (CRLX) in Camperdown, Victoria.

CRLX is a sheep and cattle saleyard that run a through-put of up to 1000 cattle and 20-60,000 sheep a week that come from farms from 100km radius.

Connectivity is vital to the efficient running of the saleyard’s operations.

“We use our technology here through the NBN-based wireless network we’ve got throughout the yards,” Steve said.

“At CRLX we live stream each sale for both cattle and sheep. It gives a good opportunity for vendors to watch the sales at home if they can’t get to the site. People also have the option to bid online.

The yard at CRLX is modern and uses state of the art technology, including electronic identification tags for each of the livestock that enters the yards.

“With better connectivity we are able to get our information out to the public a bit better and more quickly, and our vendors and clients appreciate it.

“Being an agent here at CRLX, with the knowledge that we have, they can get their prices out to client as fast as possible.”
