Casey Warmly Welcomes New Citizens

The City of Casey welcomed over 700 new Australian citizens across three ceremonies held at Bunjil Place on Tuesday 27 February 2024.

Each year Casey hosts multiple citizenship ceremonies, holding more than any other LGA. In 2023 alone, over 7600 individuals and families who have immigrated to Australia and living within the community received their citizenship in Casey.

The ceremony marks the final step in the journey to becoming an Australian Citizen, with recipients taking the citizenship pledge and receiving their official certificate of Australian Citizenship amongst their friends and family.

This ceremony saw Casey lucky enough to welcome a diverse range of people of different ages and backgrounds from over 34 countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, England, India, Nepal, Sudan and Zimbabwe.

Nisha and Jugal attended the ceremony with their two young children, to celebrate Nisha as she received her citizenship. Originally from India, the family have been living in Casey for several years and raising their family in Endeavour Hills.

“One of our favourite weekend activities we enjoy as a family is taking our children for their dance lessons and to enjoy the pool at Casey ARC,” they said. “The kids also enjoy playing at the parks near home.”

Another family attending the ceremony was Tina and Sefo. Originally from Samoa, the pair and their family moved to New Zealand before settling in Casey for the past 13 years. The pair received their Australian citizenship amongst many members of their proud and excited family in attendance.

The City of Casey warmly welcomes all new citizens to Casey, whether they have lived here for several years or new to the community and encourage their participation across events and activity offerings in the city.
