There is now a cat curfew from 9 pm to 6 am to help protect native animals and reduce the number of roaming felines being taken to the pound. It’s also aimed at reducing ‘catfights’, unplanned kitten litters and cats being hit by cars.
Domestic cats must not leave their owners’ properties during the curfew.
The cat curfew is part of recent updates to our Council’s Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP).
These also include de-sexing of newly registered cats now being mandatory (there are exceptions for circumstances such as registered breeders).
The fine for a cat being “at large” during curfew hours is $91. If an owner refuses to desex their cat, we will not accept their registration and could issue a fine for failing to register ($364).
