Caversham Valley Primary School officially opened

  • $17.3 million Caversham Valley Primary School officially opened today
  • The school will grow to accommodate up to 430 students from kindergarten to Year 6
  • Facilities include an impressive piece of public art, Kooyar, which doubles as playground equipment
  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery and local MP Michelle Roberts today opened the $17.3 million Caversham Valley Primary School, which welcomed around 340 students into their new classrooms at the start of the year.

Among the school’s first-class facilities are four contemporary teaching buildings, including one specifically for early childhood learning, an education support classroom and art room.

Multipurpose playing courts, an administration and dental therapy facility, a library resource centre, and a covered assembly building with a music room and canteen complete the new facilities.

An impressive piece of public art by Jahne Rees, called Kooyar, is also a focal point of the school and doubles as a playground. It complements several outside learning areas including an amphitheatre and shaded grass areas, landscaped gardens, playgrounds and car parks.

The school community has a strong focus on local Noongar culture and has worked closely with the Wadjuk people to name the buildings and student factions.

Sustainability and the environment are also key features of students’ learning, with programs that have strong links to the nearby Swan Valley and its industries.

Caversham Valley Primary School is one of four new public primary schools which opened this year as part of a $74.5 million State Government investment.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“I am delighted to celebrate the official opening of Caversham Valley Primary School today on the doorstep of the Swan Valley.

“It is always exciting to open a brand new school in a fast growing suburb and to help meet the needs of more and more families.

“Staff at the school have been specially chosen for their experience and knowledge, and paired with the outstanding indoor and outdoor facilities, students at the school will be given every opportunity to thrive.”

As stated by Midland MLA Michelle Roberts:

“Back in 2016, I stood on what was then a vacant site and made the commitment that if the McGowan Labor Government was elected, we would build a school for the people of Caversham.

“I am proud to say – we’ve delivered.

“The $17.3 million primary school caters for 430 students from kindy to Year 6 where children are going to a school that is close to home, further developing a real sense of community.”
