Police have released CCTV images as they appeal for information from the public as investigations continue into suspicious fires in the state’s south last month.
About 10.20pm on Monday 5 December 2022, emergency services were called to a building on Dean Street, Albury, after a wheelie bin was set alight at the rear of the building, before spreading into the ground floor.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the storage unit of the shop – and its contents – were extensively damaged.
The shop and residential unit on the floor above were both unoccupied at the time and there are no reports of injury.
Then, about 10.10pm the following day (Tuesday 6 December 2022), police were called to a shopping centre on Borella Road, East Albury, following reports of a fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, which was contained to a bin, and caused minor damage to a wall.
Soon after, a second fire was located in a laneway outside the complex, where another bin was on fire.
It was also extinguished with no damage caused to the building.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District established crime scenes and commenced an investigation into the cause of the fires, which are being treated as suspicious.
Investigations are continuing to determine if the fires are linked.
As those investigations continue, detectives have released CCTV images of a man they believe may be able to assist them.
The man depicted in the images is wearing a black hooded puffer jacket, grey shorts, white runners and sunglasses.
