In 2018, HOBAN Recruitment achieved Disability Confident Recruiter (DCR) status. Three years on, HOBAN have embraced their status as DCR with their commitment to equal employment opportunities for people with disability.

The Disability Confident Recruiter (DCR) program educates organisations to build up their confidence and capability around attracting and hiring people with disability. The program highlights the unintended barriers that may prevent candidates with disability from applying for roles and provides support for organisations to accessibly recruit.

“HOBAN recognises the responsibility it plays in creating and supporting an equitable and inclusive recruitment journey by sourcing from the entire talent pool. The impact of the DCR program has empowered HOBAN to engage with our candidates and clients confidently to bridge gaps in inaccessibility along the recruitment process. HOBAN is proud of its DCR accreditation as it stands as a reflection of our commitment to supporting Australians living with disability. ” – Lynsey Bilbe, General Manager, HOBAN Recruitment

For HOBAN, the DCR program has provided their team with the confidence and the ability to advise clients on the provision of workplace adjustments.

The program has helped them breakdown stereotypes and unconscious bias, by ensuring their recruitment process is barrier free and open to people with disability.

HOBAN has made significant progress working with their clients since gaining the accreditation. Over 90% of HOBAN staff were trained to be Disability Confident Recruiters. Advertising over 5,500 different roles each year, the barrier-free recruitment process allows HOBAN access to a much wider talent pool of skilled jobseekers.

The team has also taken their disability confident learnings to:

  • implement an effective process for managing adjustments
  • refine their interviewing techniques
  • enhance job descriptions and feedback mechanisms
  • improve communications
  • establish a process for matching candidates with the essential requirements of a role.

Since achieving DCR status, HOBAN has been able to place people with disability into time critical government projects and ecommerce roles.

“We are very proud of HOBAN being a leader in championing inclusion and equal opportunities for all. We have seen the value first hand at what happens when you look at the person and what they can do. HOBAN is passionate about continuously doing better in becoming a barrier-free recruiter and sharing our inclusive culture with all internal and external stakeholders.” – Kamila Kwiatkowski, Area Manager Melbourne and Executive, HOBAN Recruitment
