CFA volunteer firefighters to help with ACT fires

Around 160 CFA volunteer firefighters and staff members, 40 fire trucks and 19 support vehicles will make up eight strike teams that will be deployed to the ACT:

  • 2 Strike Teams from North Western Metro region
  • 1 Strike Team from Eastern Metro region
  • 1 Strike Team from Grampians
  • 1 Strike Team from Barwon South West
  • 1 Strike Team from Loddon Mallee
  • 2 Strike Teams from Hume

The Victorian firefighters have been requested to help protect properties and work on the bushfire that is still burning out of control.

More than 2500 Victorian personnel were deployed to help with bushfires in QLD and NSW between 1 October and 31 December last year, and CFA Chief Executive Officer and Chief Officer Steve Warrington said our crews have again heeded the call for help from another state.

“Just like we have needed help during our challenging bushfire season, we will support our partner agencies in ACT during this difficult time,” he said.

“These devastating fires have seen properties and communities under threat so we are pleased to share these resources and much-needed support with our interstate colleagues.

“Victorians know all-too-well the devastating impacts of these types of fires, and I’m proud that our firefighters can share their invaluable expertise to help with the response in these communities.

The crews will travel to Canberra tomorrow and be deployed in the field for three days before returning home to Victoria on Tuesday.
