The Construction, Forestry, Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) has expressed its deepest condolences over the loss of Victorian Senator Linda White.

CFMEU Construction and General Division National Secretary Zach Smith paid tribute to her incredible achievements.

“The CFMEU expresses its deepest sympathies to Linda’s family, friends and comrades across the labour movement,” he said.

“Linda was a cherished colleague whose achievements made Australia a fairer and better place.

“Linda’s actions had a profound impact on workers’ lives over decades.

“From securing workers’ entitlements during the Ansett collapse, to campaigning for domestic and family violence leave, Linda’s fierce determination and deep sense of justice underpinned her significant victories for working people.

“We will always remember her decency, intelligence and relentless pursuit of better outcomes for working people.

“Linda was also instrumental in shaping the modern Labor Party through her advocacy for gender quotas that have improved parliamentary representation across the nation.

“Today we mourn Linda’s loss while reflecting on a legacy that will make a difference for generations to come.”
