“Jim Chalmers has paved the way for yet another broken promise this morning, refusing to confirm that his government will repeal its widows tax”, Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson said.
Mr Wilson’s comments come in the wake of the Treasurer’s desperate ‘clean-up job’ appearance on the ABC’s Insiders program.
“Jim Chalmers and Katy Gallagher promised the Parliament they’d stop their widows tax attack last week, this week the Treasurer now won’t commit to doing so”, Mr Wilson said.
“It took 50 times before for the Prime Minister and Treasurer to break their promises on introducing new taxes, now they’re down to single digits”.
“Jim Chalmers’ budget started unravelling before he delivered it, at Thursday breakfast Ministers were defending the widows tax, but by lunch time the government backtracked, and by Sunday morning coffee they’re hedging to betray Australians again”.
“Jim Chalmers’ doubling down on Judas moves shows he’s on the side of the Greens, not grieving widows”.
“This dog of a Labor government is being wagged by its Green tail, and the Greens are pushing hard for death taxes”.
