Champion Shot awarded at Australian Army Skill at Arms Competition

The Australian Army is proud to announce the 2020 Army Skill at Arms Meeting (AASAM) Champion Shot of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has been awarded to Lance Corporal Nicholas Latham from 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.

AASAM is an important annual event for Army and the ADF which demonstrates the highest levels of fitness and proficiency at arms.

The competition tests the skills of some of our elite shooters through realistic and challenging scenarios requiring them to demonstrate sound judgement and rapid decision making.

It also provides a unique opportunity for soldiers, sailors and airmen to test their technical skill as part of the ADF team.

The Champion Shot medals were presented to the following service winners after the final event of the competition on Thursday 19 March.

· Australian Army: Lance Corporal Nicholas Latham from Townsville’s 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.

· Royal Australian Navy: Sub Lieutenant Jerome Dillon-Baker from Nowra’s 723 Squadron.

· Royal Australian Air Force: Flight Lieutenant Rohan McBride from RAAF East Sale’s Officer Training School.

Shooters competed in both team and individual events, including assault courses, simulated close-quarter fighting, moving targets and night time marksmanship matches.
