Screen Queensland is calling for applications from emerging practitioners from across the state to create innovative scripted, factual or artistic vertical content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok.

Dedicated to growing a successful screen industry, Screen Queensland explores all formats of screen media, including the continuously evolving content creator industry.

The Channel Lab: Short Cuts initiative will support up to 10 emerging Queensland teams with $10,000 each to develop and produce an innovative vertical series, a first for a state screen agency. Over the five-month program, participants will also receive guidance from industry professionals through in-depth online workshops to support the critical development, production and release stages for the selected projects.

Participants will explore best practice production approaches and practical ways to maximise resources, while also connecting with creators from around the state as they progress their minimum of three-episode series ready to debut on the platform.

This is the second opportunity within Screen Queensland’s Channel Lab initiative, which launched in March with a YouTube Accelerator program, supporting emerging Queensland creatives who use online platforms to share their screen stories.

Screen Queensland Chief Creative Officer, Dr Belinda Burns said that Channel Lab provides Queensland creatives with transformative opportunities to develop their skills and share their storytelling on a global scale via online platforms.

“Increasingly, the next generation of storytellers are choosing these platforms to reach audiences with content that is exciting, fresh and original.

“At Screen Queensland, we are committed to championing these emerging creators and excited by the potential of the genres, voices and formats thriving in these online spaces.”

Applications for Channel Lab: Short Cuts are now open on the Screen Queensland website and close Monday 17 June.

Practitioners from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, are encouraged to apply.
