Charge laid after man critically injured in assault at Tweed Heads, NSW

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of another man on the state’s Far North Coast last night.

About 9pm (Saturday 12 June 2021), emergency services were called to a unit on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads West, following reports a man had been assaulted.

The 20-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Tweed Heads Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As part of their inquiries, police spoke to a 19-year-old man, known to the older man, at the scene.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm (DV).

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 5 July 2021.
