Charges laid against two men as part of investigations into alleged murder of Mahmoud Ahmad

Two men have now been charged as investigations continue into the alleged murder of Mahmoud Ahmad in Sydney’s south-west last year.

About 9.30pm on Wednesday 27 April 2022, emergency services responded to reports a man had been shot in Greenacre.

Upon arrival, police located a man with gunshot wounds. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, died at the scene.

He has since been formally identified as 39-year-old Mahmoud Ahmad.

The matter was initially investigated by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Betta.

The investigation subsequently formed part of ongoing inquiries by Task Force Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activities by organised crime networks across Sydney.

Four men – aged 26, 29, 37 and 49 – have previously been charged over their alleged involvement in the murder and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, detectives executed four search warrants at properties in Campsie and Clemton Park about 8am today (Monday 1 May 2023).

Investigators arrested two men, both aged 33, who were then taken to Campsie Police Station.

The 33-year-old Clemton Park man was charged with 16 offences, including:

  • accessory after the fact to murder,
  • knowingly direct activities of criminal group,
  • four counts of supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity,
  • four counts of supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity,
  • two counts of supply prohibited drug >indictable &
  • solicit, encourage, persuade etc to murder,
  • supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis,
  • knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal, and
  • take part supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity.

The 33-year-old Campsie man was charged with 15 offences, including:

  • knowingly direct activities of criminal group,
  • four counts of supply prohibited drug >= commercial quantity,
  • four counts of supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity,
  • two counts of supply prohibited drug >indictable &
  • solicit, encourage, persuade etc to murder,
  • supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis,
  • take part supply prohibited drug >= large commercial quantity, and
  • knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal.

Police will allege in court the Clemton Park man was involved in the moving of vehicles following the alleged shooting.

It will further be alleged that both men were involved in the supply of 1kg of methylamphetamine and 1.1kg of cocaine across Sydney’s south-west.

These prohibited drugs have a combined estimated potential street value of $3 million.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 2 May 2023).
