Charges laid as Operation Western Mongoose continues, NSW

Two people have been charged following investigations into traffic and property-related offences in the state’s north east.

Operation Western Mongoose was established in April 2022 to investigate property offences, break and enters, and vehicle thefts throughout Oxley Police District.

Officers attended a home in Gunnedah about 2.30pm on Thursday (2 June 2022), and issued a 16-year-old boy a future court attendance notice (FCAN) for the offence of participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and traffic-related offences.

He will appear at a children’s court on Thursday 7 July 2022.

One boy, aged 13, was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Additionally, about 10.30am on Tuesday 7 June 2022, a 36-year-old man attended Tamworth Police Station, and was arrested in relation to the alleged theft of a car.

He was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and driver never licensed. He was given conditional bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 20 June 2022.

Investigations will continue under Operation Western Mongoose.

Operation Western Mongoose consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team, Detectives, Crime Prevention Unit within Oxley Police District, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command and Dog Unit.
