Detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a man following an investigation into the possession of child exploitation material on a work-issued computer.
The Gold Coast CPIU commenced investigations after receiving a report on 30 October 2025 relating to the alleged misuse of a restricted computer by an employee at a school in Arundel.
It will be alleged the man used a work-issued laptop and artificial intelligence software to generate explicit images depicting staff members and students.
Following extensive investigations, detectives yesterday charged a 73-year-old Gold Coast man with one count each of misuse of Restricted Computer contrary to section 408E of the Criminal Code, make child exploitation material section 228B of the Criminal Code, possess Child Exploitation Material section 228D of the Criminal Code and possess/Controlling Child Abuse Material section 474.23 Of the Criminal Code (Commonwealth).
He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 6 August.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort said the misuse of artificial intelligence to create child exploitation material is a serious criminal offence that causes real harm to victims, regardless of whether the images have been digitally generated.
“Technology is constantly evolving, but so are our investigative capabilities. Anyone who believes they can use AI or online platforms to create, possess, or distribute child exploitation material should expect to be identified and held accountable.
“The Queensland Police Service will relentlessly investigate, identify and hold offenders accountable to protect children and our community.”
