City of Canada Bay awards over $180,000 to community groups

The City of Canada Bay will be awarding over $180,000 to 57 well-deserving groups as part of its Community Funding Programs.

The funding will be awarded through two programs: Community Grants and Community Sponsorship.

The annual Community Grants Program provides financial support for groups and initiatives which benefit local residents. This year 46 groups received a total of $67,000.

Among the recipients is the Mother of Light Seniors Group, an organisation that supports the ongoing wellbeing of isolated seniors.

Organisations such as the Shepherd Centre, which supports the development of social skills and confidence in children with hearing loss, and the Dancing Heart Studio, which hosts a weekly program catering to people with disability, were also awarded grants.

The Community Sponsorship Program saw $113,000 awarded to 11 events and initiatives.

Recipients included Communities for Communities, a non-profit volunteer organisation that raises money for various charities through their community events, and the Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause, which raises money for blood cancer research at Concord Hospital.
