City of Perth hosts Australia’s biggest conference since COVID

The biggest post-COVID conference in Australia was yesterday opened in Perth by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, via video, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 60th Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) national conference represents industry leadership in petroleum and will run until 17 June.

As the key note speaker via video, Prime Minister Scott Morrison noted the critical role of oil and gas in Australia’s economy and laid out the challenge of what he described as the coming “new energy economy”.

The Western Australian Premier Hon. Mark McGowan spoke of trade links and WA’s unique value proposition in the global energy market.

Kevin Gallagher, APPEA Chairman and Santos CEO, enunciated major trade and export opportunities in the Asia-Pacific Region.

“Yesterday, Perth’s unique COVID safety record enabled 1700 people to sit together for the opening address in the Riverside Theatre,” City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said.

“We’re extremely proud to be hosting such a critical conference in the heart of the CBD – highlighting the central role the industry plays in the Australian economy and the urgency of developing new energy technologies.”

The City of Perth Economic Development Team will be at the conference which ends tomorrow.
