City Offers Amnesty On Pet Registration

The City of Greater Geelong is offering a free pet registration amnesty for eligible cat and dog owners between Monday 4 November and Sunday 15 December.

The amnesty applies to residents of the City of Greater Geelong municipal area with microchipped cats and dogs that are not currently registered

There is no limit to how many animals can be registered for free during the amnesty period.

Registration allows us to reunite lost pets with their owners, plus registering your pet can also avoid the financial and emotional burden of impoundment.

Registration proceeds also help to fund animal-related projects across our municipality, such as the building of dog parks and support services provided by GAWS.

To take advantage of the offer, visit the register your pets page.

Alternatively, registration forms can be completed in person at one of the City’s Customer Service Centres.

Registering your cat or dog with Council is a legal requirement as outlined by the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and failing to register your pet can result in a fine of $395 per animal.

Registration is required to be renewed each year and paid for by 10 April and will apply to all pet owners including those who take up the free registration offer during the amnesty period.
