City to welcome Brian Westley as new Director Presentation and Assets

Transport and infrastructure specialist, Brian Westley, will join the City of Greater Bendigo as the new Director Presentation and Assets, starting on Tuesday December 1.

Mr Westley most recently worked at the Department of Transport (formerly VicRoads) as the Regional Director – Northern and also took on secondments within the Victorian Government, including to support the 2020 Bushfire Recovery activities.

As Regional Director, Mr Westley also chaired the Recycled Content in Roads Taskforce, which focused on leading reform to make the most of reclaimed glass, rubber and plastics in road works.

His previous roles also within VicRoads include as Project Director at Country Roads, Director Operations – Metropolitan North West, State-wide Manager of People Services and Operations Manager – Northern Victoria.

City Chief Executive Officer Craig Niemann said Mr Westley brought a vast skillset to the organisation.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Brian into the role. The City has strong relationships with the Department of Transport in planning for and delivery of transport infrastructure, so his knowledge of the department and experience in advocacy to Ministers will be a great asset to us,” Mr Niemann said.

“He has extensive experience in strategic planning, financial management and governance, and understands the importance of putting the customer at the centre of decision making.

“Brian’s experience in human resources and employee engagement are also welcome skills, particularly as he will be leading a workforce that works across a number of offices and based out in the community.”

He also brings a strong focus on sustainability and will lead the development of a circular economy for Greater Bendigo.

Mr Westly said he was excited to join the City and continue to make a great contribution to road and pedestrian safety, asset maintenance, service delivery and overall presentation of Greater Bendigo.

“I have always admired the work of the City and the important leadership role of Council in the community, so I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to continue to work in Greater Bendigo and have a direct role in shaping the continued liveability of our region,” Mr Westley said.

“From what I have seen, the City has passionate and dedicated staff that take great pride in their work and what they deliver for residents. I look forward to leading the team and applying my skills in people management and engagement, sustainable material use, project delivery and customer-focused outcomes to the role.

Mr Westley lives in Bendigo with his wife and four young children.
