Campaspe Shire Council began discussions with Kyabram Community Learning Centre (KCLC) in December 2022 to work through their expired lease with a view to assisting a supported transition for Council to resume possession of rooms at the building owned by Council at 21-25 Lake Road, Kyabram.
Part of the Lake Rd building is leased to (KCLC) including Rooms 5 and 6 that Council requires for the provision of its own services as increased demand in Kyabram grows for multi-use public spaces from library patrons (in the adjoining building) and community groups, as well as requiring additional space for Council staff to work from.
Original discussions on the expired lease go back to August 2022, with the detailed discussions 10 months ago in December 2022 informing KCLC of Council’s need to resume possession of the rooms, and work through the expired lease and finalisation of a transition date. The date for KCLC to vacate the rooms was extended to November 2023 to allow KCLC to rearrange their existing services into the southern end of the building. Council continues to support KCLC by leasing the southern portion of the building for a peppercorn rental amount under Council Community Leasing Policy.
Council has offered to support KCLC with financial contribution in the movement of fridges, and infrastructure from the area to allow KCLC to continue providing much needed foodbank services to the community, to ensure the transition limits interruptions to KCLC services.
Council has also offered to assist KCLC with removal and relocation of donated items for flood affected families, to the fit-for-purpose Recovery Hub in Rochester, so that donations could be more easily accessed by those that require them. In addition to this, any donations that were unsuitable could be disposed of free of charge.
Council would like to sincerely thank KCLC and the wider Kyabram community for their donations and efforts to assist residents affected by the October 2022 floods. Residents who have been flood affected and still require assistance are urged to contact Council’s Recovery Hub.
In addition to Council’s Flood Recovery Team, a range of government and professional agencies are operating from the hub, including Anglicare case management and financial counselling, Partners in Wellbeing small business financial counselling, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Mind Australia, Echuca Regional Health case management and Bendigo Community Health case management.
