Clean Economy grants open to applications

Local businesses with a clever concept to develop a clean technology or circular economy solution are invited to apply for a Clean Economy Grant to make their project a reality.

Grants of up to $25,000 are available with the aim of assisting the community to work towards a circular economy, reduce energy use and environmental impacts, and find solutions that benefit the region.

We’re particularly interested in projects that tackle key challenges, such as reducing energy consumption, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and innovating sustainable building materials.

Examples of ideas that will be considered for funding include materials testing, prototyping, market research and testing, research and development, product development and intellectual property.

Austeng and Deakin University last year received grant funding from the City to create a more sustainable alternative to cement-based concrete. BOOM Power used its grant to develop the ability to upload an energy bill and receive a tailored proposal for electrifying a home or business. Fulton Hogan used its grant to test the viability of using locally sourced biochar (from agricultural and organic sites) in cold mix asphalt products at their Lara plant.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

The Clean Economy Grants, formerly known as Cleantech and Circular Economy Grants, are driven by Council’s determination to make Greater Geelong more sustainable.

As a region known for advanced manufacturing, we want to support businesses to develop innovative technology and solutions that contribute to a cleaner and stronger region.

The City expects to fund up to five projects from the total pool of $50,000, from those that reduce waste to landfill, improve soil ecology, achieve net zero emissions and everything in between.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken

Council is excited to continue support of clean technology and a move towards a circular economy where the impacts of production and consumption were reduced.

We want to see proposed projects that are good for both the environment and the local economy, and solve a problem.

Read the eligibility guidelines for a Clean Economy Grant and apply before 5pm on Monday 20 November – good luck!

Clean Economy Grants are most suitable for established businesses (minimum three years of operation) with the experience and capacity to take the proof of concept or prototype into production.
