Clear information needed to keep children safe and well

Tasmanian Labor

One of the most important responsibilities a government has is ensuring children are safe and well, however there continues to be conflicting information provided to early childhood education and care centres about how to be COVID safe.

Labor Leader Rebecca White said parents across Tasmania are rightly concerned for their children’s health and wellbeing as they go back to school and as they head into childcare centres.

“There needs to be clear and consistent information provided by the government to keep young children safe,” Ms White said.

“The government set the reopening date for December 15 and should have had a clear plan in place to support early childhood education and care centres to keep both staff and children safe.

“But the government has failed to provide a clear plan, with information continuing to change and contradictory advice being provided. This is incredibly confusing for operators and parents.

“The government needs to provide a guarantee that children will be safe at school and in our early childhood education and care centres.

“Children, especially those who are too young to be vaccinated, need to be kept safe from COVID and this must be a priority for the government.”
