The Finocchiaro CLP Government is funding 31 locally-led activities under the Northern Territory Suicide Prevention Community Grants Program.
Funding of $299,106 has been awarded to projects across the Top End, Big Rivers, East Arnhem, Barkly and Central Australia.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is supporting suicide prevention and awareness across the NT with funding of $299,106 awarded to 31 locally-led activities.
Minister for Health Steve Edgington said NT Health and the Northern Territory Primary Health Network boosted the Suicide Prevention Community Grants funding by an additional $50,000 with $20,000 from NT Health, as part of our commitment to reducing suicide rates.
“We know that suicide has a devastating impact, and as part of our year of growth, certainty and security, I was pleased to announce that the CLP Government boosted the funding for these grants,” Minister Edgington said.
“Suicide leaves a devastating ripple through our communities. Behind every statistic is a loved one whose life mattered, and a family forever changed.
“Every life lost is a tragedy, and every loss strengthens our resolve to improve support and prevention, which is why these grants are so important.”
The Suicide Prevention Community Grants aim to reduce suicide rates in the NT, which are the highest in the country. In 2024, 52 people died by suicide in the NT, which is a distressing rate of 19.8 for every 100,000 people.
Among the projects to receive funding is Football Northern Territory with $10,000 towards a Mental Health Awareness Round and $8,000 to Darwin Karting Association for its “You’re Not Alone” Mental Health Awareness Round.
SabrinasReach4Life has received funding of $10,000 for a Suicide Prevention Forum and Life Education NT will use the same amount for Social and Emotional Wellbeing Education in schools in the Barkly region.
In East Arnhem, the Marngarr Resource Centre Aboriginal Corporation will use funding of $10,000 for Mental Health First Aid training for Yolŋu employees and a community wellbeing event focused on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
Grant activities align with the Northern Territory Suicide Prevention Strategic Implementation Plan 2023-2028: Keeping Everyone Safe.
To date, the NT Suicide Prevention Community Grants has provided over $1.9 million in funding, supporting over 239 community projects focused on suicide awareness.
The NT Government partnered with the NT Primary Health Network (NT PHN), which contributed $130,000 to the 2026/2027 funding pool.
