Sunshine Coast beaches have come through the latest severe weather event in good condition with very few issues detected during inspections by council officers along the coastline this morning.
Sand levels remain very similar to what they were prior to the heavy surf, wind and rain with upcoming high tides expected to take care of any minor washouts.
Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group co-ordinator Cathy Buck said the situation on the beaches was replicated throughout the region.
The local LDMG was stood down this morning after being on alert since Friday.
“Overall, the weather has not provided us with too many issues, although we do remind motorists to continue to take extra care on our roads with showers still passing through today and some minor debris around,” she said.
“It’s also important that people – kids through to adults – stay out of our flooded or fast moving creeks.
“They are not play zones after rain like we’ve experienced in recent days.”
In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall totals for the Sunshine Coast have been recorded in the hinterland with 127mm at Diamond Valley, 123mm at Maleny, 121mm at Landsborough, 113mm at Palmwoods, 111mm at Baroon Dam and 103mm at Bald Knob.
One casualty of the heavy surf was a sea snake found washed up on a beach by council officers this morning.
It was transferred to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.
