Cocaine package intercepted, Palm Beach man charged, NSW

A man will face court today, charged with drug and firearm offences after a package – allegedly containing drugs – was detected on the North Coast earlier this week.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District initiated inquiries after the package was intercepted last Sunday (3 May 2020). Testing revealed the parcel contained cocaine, with an estimated potential street value of $8000.

They referred inquiries to Northern Beaches Police Area Command and, yesterday (Wednesday 6 May 2020), detectives executed a search warrant at a unit on Barrenjoey Road, Palm Beach, and seized firearm parts, ammunition, an electronic stun device, cocaine, MDMA, cash and fraudulent identifications.

A 22-year-old man was arrested after a short foot pursuit and was taken to Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with 40 offences:

• Four counts of supply prohibited drug – indictable,

• Possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,

• Possess unauthorised firearm,

• Two counts of possess unregistered firearm,

• Two counts of not keep firearm safely,

• Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit,

• Possess ammunition,

• Escape police custody,

• Resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty,

• Twenty-five counts of receive property-theft, and

• Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Police will allege in court that the man mailed the package from the Newport Beach post office on Thursday 30 April 2020.

The man, from Palm Beach, has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 7 May 2020).
