Colac police impound after tyre blowout

Colac Police impounded a car in Colac earlier yesterday after its tyre blew out after a burnout.

Officers observed a dark coloured Holden Commodore station wagon travelling at 128m/h in a permanent 40km/h zone about 1.15am.

They followed the vehicle to intercept it and observed it do a burnout which caused its rear tyre to blow out on Queen Street.

All five occupants of the car ran from the vehicle before the driver stopped and spoke to police.

The driver of the vehicle became aggressive when advised his car was to be impounded and attempted to assault the members before being OC sprayed.

He was arrested and taken to Colac Police Station.

The man’s license was immediately suspended, and his car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1170.

He is expected to be charged on summons with driving offences.

Whilst committing the offences, the man was also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and was issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
