Collingwood attempted carjacking charges

Police have charged a teenage girl following an attempted aggravated carjacking in Collingwood last night.

The alleged incident occurred on Stanley Street when the victim parked her car outside an apartment building just before midnight.

The victim told investigators that after parking her car, she was walking towards the footpath when she was approached by the girl.

The girl was allegedly armed with a knife and managed to grab the victim’s car keys from her hand.

The girl got into the victim’s car but was unable to start it.

The victim jumped into the passenger seat and managed to get her keys back from the girl, who ran off along Stanley Street.

Police attended and conducted a patrol of the area before finding the girl hiding under a car on Wellington Street.

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives have interviewed a 14-year-old Collingwood girl in relation to the incident.

She has been charged with attempted aggravated carjacking, recklessly causing injury and assault with a weapon.

The girl is expected to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

The victim sustained a minor injury to her hand in the incident.
