- More than $240,000 in energy-saving credits delivered to homes across six Kimberley communities
- About 480 households benefiting from shared rooftop solar through Kimberley Communities Solar Saver
- Approximately 1.5 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity has been installed across participating communities
The Albanese and Cook Labor Governments have completed the rollout of the Kimberley Communities Solar Saver (KCSS) program, delivering more than $240,000 in energy-saving credits to households across six remote Kimberley communities.
Delivered by Horizon Power, KCSS supports households that may not otherwise be able to access individual rooftop solar systems. Solar panels are installed across selected homes, with the benefits shared among households through regular energy-saving credits.
The program now provides energy-saving credits to around 480 households in Warmun, Bidyadanga, Ardyaloon, Yungngora, Beagle Bay, and Mowanjum, helping reduce electricity costs while supporting cleaner and more reliable energy in remote communities.
With installations completed in Mowanjum in August 2026, households in all six participating communities are now receiving energy-saving credits through the program, marking the completion of the rollout.
Approximately 1.5 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity has been installed across the six communities, helping reduce reliance on high-cost diesel generation while increasing the use of locally generated renewable energy.
The Kimberley Communities Solar Saver program is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments through the Community Solar Banks Program.
Comments attributed to Commonwealth Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy Josh Wilson:
“The Kimberley Communities Solar Saver program is demonstrating how shared solar can reduce power bills and improve energy security in remote communities.
“By helping more households access the benefits of renewable energy, we are ensuring the energy transition is practical, inclusive, and delivers real benefits for communities across regional Australia.”
Comments attributed to WA Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
“The completion of the Kimberley Communities Solar Saver program demonstrates what can be achieved when governments work together to deliver the benefits of the energy transition to some of the most remote communities in the country.
“Around 480 households across the Kimberley have already shared in $240,000 in energy saving credits, which is real cost-of-living relief.”
As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:
“The Kimberley Solar Saver Program is delivering real tangible changes for our local communities.
“Not only is it delivering cost-of-living relief, but it is also delivering locally, generated renewable energy and reducing reliance on diesel generators.”
