Wesley LifeForce in partnership with Lifeline and MidCoast Council will be hosting meetings for interested community members in Taree and in Forster-Tuncurry on Monday 3 June with the aim of forming a local suicide prevention network in each area.
Wesley LifeForce works with communities around Australia to draw together local individuals and organisations that together, will go on to develop local suicide prevention strategies. Currently there are more than 100 community-based suicide prevention networks across the nation.
The meetings in Taree and in Forster-Tuncurry will be the first of their kind and are the result of ongoing community engagement initiated by Lifeline and MidCoast Council and discussions in May 2019 between Wesley LifeForce and service representatives working in the area of mental health.
The CEO of Wesley Mission, the Rev Keith Garner AM, encourages residents to get involved.
“The aim is to empower people to tackle this difficult issue in a manner best suited to the needs of people living in the local area,” he said.
“Simple, effective interventions can make a difference and save lives – and Wesley LifeForce can help communities to develop local activities that address the issue of suicide.”
