The winners of the Colac Otway Community Awards will be unveiled on the main stage of the Colac Kana Festival at 11am on Saturday 19 March, 2022.

“I really hope everyone comes to the community awards for a truly inclusive community event and to celebrate our fantastic award winners,” said Colac Otway Shire Council Mayor, Cr Kate Hanson. “We had 19 excellent nominations showing the high level of volunteers we have in the shire.”

There are three categories this year: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Service Award (Group/Individual).

“It’s so important to celebrate community achievements and we live in a region where community spirit is not in short supply,” said Mayor Hanson. “Think about the people in your life who make a difference to the community and remember to nominate them for next year’s awards.”

The Colac Kana Festival has run for more than 60 years under the Elms of the Memorial Square and this year includes the theme ‘Heroes and Villains’.

“Come and see our heroes as part of the awards and make a day of it supporting local businesses and community groups who also deserve a pat on the back for the work they have done, particularly in the last few years,” said Mayor Hanson.
