Compensation commitment needed on transmission line impacts

Tasmanian Labor

The Liberal government owes Tasmania’s farmers a commitment on compensation over the impact of transmission infrastructure upgrades related to Project Marinus.

Primary producers in the north and north-west are growing increasingly concerned about the impact TasNetworks’ proposed transmission lines will have on their properties.

But when asked in Parliament today to commit to adequately compensating primary producers using ongoing contemporary contracts, the Premier Jeremy Rockliff failed to do so.

Our farmers want to know they will be compensated fairly for the disruption this will cause to their business and their land, including ongoing compensation for the transmission line.

They want assurances the Premier and the Minister will make the legislative changes required and ensure the use of ongoing contemporary contracts for compensation.

Mr Rockliff cannot keep fobbing off farmers who are dealing with unnecessary stress over the uncertainty they are facing.

Farmers deserve to know that their livelihoods will not be affected by these transmission lines and the Premier owes it to them to provide that commitment.
