Congratulations to our Tasmanian AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award 2022 finalists

Guy Barnett,Minister for Primary Industries and Water

The Tasmanian Government recognises and thanks the thousands of Tasmanian women who play an incredibly important role in the State’s rapidly growing and diversifying agriculture sector.

The AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award is Australia’s leading award empowering and celebrating the inclusive and courageous leadership of women and the essential role they play in rural and regional businesses, industries and communities.

Three Tasmanian women have been announced as the State finalists for the 2022 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award.

  • Sally Murfet, from Sorell, who is committed to effective and accessible workforce management in agriculture. Through her business, Inspire AG, Sally assists farmers in best managing their workforce. Sally’s project intends to digitise her human resource management assessment tool to ensure the service is widely accessible.
  • Kate Field, from Copping, who is implementing innovative by-product uses in her sustainable farm practices. Kate’s own Leap Farm is a carbon positive endeavour producing goat cheese and meat. In alignment with her sustainable ethos, Kate has turned her waste whey into a skincare line: Leapful. Her project aim is to further develop the Leapful range.
  • Stephanie Trethewey, from Dunorlan, who is working to create greater connectivity and support between rural mothers through her online group program, Motherland. Steph’s project plan is to open her program nationally, reach a wider audience and gain greater resources to best manage and support a larger group of rural mothers.

The Tasmanian winner will be announced at an award ceremony at Parliament House in April and will receive a $15,000 grant from platinum sponsor Westpac. The winner will also compete for the National Award and a further $20,000 Westpac grant for their project, which will be announced at a gala dinner in Canberra later in the year.

The Tasmanian Awards are also supported by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, and Tasmanian Women in Agriculture.

The Encouragement Award and Development Awards are sponsored by Tasmanian Women in Agriculture and winners will receive $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.
