Consultation commences on Tasmanian Women’s Strategy 2022-2027

Madeleine Ogilvie,Minister for Women

Tasmanians are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft Tasmanian Women’s Strategy 2022-2027, a new vision which reflects contemporary standards and expectations.

As we all know, the world is changing rapidly, particularly in the last two years, and we need a revised strategy that supports Tasmanian women and girls to not just participate equally in all opportunities in Tasmania, but to thrive and to succeed.

Over the last five years, we have seen some fantastic progress from initiatives under the past Strategy, with women’s participation on Tasmanian Government Boards and Committees going from 33.8 per cent in June 2015 to 47.4 per cent in September 2021.

In addition, 87 women having gone through the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ courses through our Women’s Leadership Scholarship.

The Government has committed over $4 million to strengthen the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in sectors where women are traditionally under-represented.

The new Tasmanian Women’s Strategy is a chance to build on these significant gains.

It reflects contemporary developments such as the inclusion of a Gender Budget Statement in the Tasmanian Government’s Budget this year.

We are also looking to develop a Gender Impact Assessment Process, that will help Government agencies analyse gender impact right throughout their work, in the development of policies, programs and services.

I’d like to thank the many organisations and people in the community who’ve provided input into the process so far.

This Strategy will guide the Tasmanian Government to achieve gender equality, and it’s essential that something this important is done through a collaborative process.

Consultation is open from Saturday 26 March to Tuesday 26 April.
