Continued support for East Devonport’s Pathway Shed

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is investing $100,000 to continue its support of Pathway to Life’s Pathway Shed project, which engages children and young people to build positive mental health and wellbeing in East Devonport.

Premier and Mental Health and Wellbeing Minister, Jeremy Rockliff, said this investment builds on the $50,000 we delivered to the Shed in 2022-23.

“This funding allowed the appointment of a full-time employee to coordinate, support and engage with children and young people as well as coordinating bookings, activities, and orientation support to community members,” Premier Rockliff said.

“Strongly supported by several volunteers, the Pathway Shed provides a safe place for children and youth, as well as their families, and offers vital support and services which aim to uplift and empower those involved.”

The Shed encourages engagement with community and provides a broad range of activities for children and youth to participate in at the Tarleton Street site.

Services on offer include social and mental health supports, community meals, essential supplies, after-school drop-in, events, group therapy, mentoring for employable skills, and indoor skateboarding.

“It was wonderful to visit the Shed on Wednesday to hear from staff, young people and parents about the significant impact its services are having,” Premier Rockliff said.

“The stories of everyday Tasmanians working hard to improve their mental health, wellbeing and lives were inspirational.

“I would like to congratulate all those who work tirelessly to run Shed. I also want to acknowledge the participants for working hard to develop new tools to be their best selves and sharing their lived experience.

“The Tasmanian Liberal Government is doing what matters for the community by investing in mental health supports and services the North West Coast needs and deserves.”
