Contract Awarded For Albany Entertainment Centre Works

  • Roof and faade repairs at Albany Entertainment Centre to be carried out by local Aboriginal business Colab Construction
  • $650,000 contract part of $20.7 million plan to upgrade iconic Great Southern venue
  • Funded works a sign of State Government’s commitment to regional Western Australia

The Cook Government has awarded the contract for important roof and faade repairs at the iconic Albany Entertainment Centre, with Colab Construction to start work soon.

The $650,000 contract will pay for works to ensure the roof and faade are secure at the Great Southern venue, which sits within a harsh ocean-front environment where strong winds and salt affect the building.

It comes after an engineering report in late 2023 recommended improvements to prevent the roof deteriorating. The State Government has responded swiftly by funding and contracting a construction company to carry out the important maintenance.

The $20.7 million upgrades are being funded by the Government’s Asset Maintenance Fund.

The roof and faade remediation works are scheduled for completion in mid-2024. Other stages of the project to upgrade Albany Entertainment Centre will follow.

Colab Constructions was awarded the Department of Finance award for best regional contractor in 2023 and best Aboriginal contractor in 2022.

As stated by Acting Culture and the Arts Minister Hannah Beazley:

“The $650,000 roof and faade repairs contract and the overall $20.7 million Albany Entertainment Centre upgrade are a sign of the importance the Cook Government places on Western Australia’s regional culture and the arts venues.

“Colab Construction is a leading commercial builder in our Great Southern region and the founder has three decades of experience, as well as an experienced team.

“They’ve done a lot of work for State Government previously and I’m looking forward to them completing these important roof repair works at our iconic Albany Entertainment Centre.”

As stated by Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

“I am so pleased to hear the Cook Government is funding these important works, which will ensure the Albany Entertainment Centre is able to stay open and operate for many years into the future.

“It is such a popular venue for locals and visitors and the fact that local Aboriginal company Colab has been awarded the tender is just fantastic.”
