The Cook Labor Government has made public transport free on Saturday, 26 September to help people get to and from watch parties and celebrations as the Fremantle Dockers prepare for the 2026 AFL Grand Final.
With tens of thousands of fans expected to be hitting the streets of Fremantle and Perth, the government is making it as easy as possible to get around the city.
Travel on all Transperth services will be free for everyone including cash tickets users. There will be no need to tag on or off.
To ensure every Western Australian can watch the Dockers take on the Brisbane Lions, there will be free events across the city screening game, including at Northbridge Piazza, Yagan Square and at BHP Amphitheatre outside Optus Stadium.
Western Australians are encouraged to catch the train to get to watch parties. Extra train services will be added to the network, with services running every 15 minutes on every line until 11pm Saturday 26 September.

As stated by Transport and Major Infrastructure Minister Rita Saffioti:
“We’re putting the “Free” in “Freo” this Grand Final Weekend.
“It’s going to be an incredible day, we know Fremantle will be packed and we want everyone to have fun and stay safe.
“We will be making all public transport free across the network on Saturday so it’s easier for fans and families to be part of the excitement.
“I encourage everyone to plan ahead and catch public transport this weekend for free.
“This is another example of the Cook Labor Government’s commitment to more accessible and affordable public transport for Western Australians.”
