Coronavirus Update 27 April

Jeremy Rockliff,Premier

Tasmania has recorded 1,213 new cases overnight, with a total of 1,608 recovered and released from isolation in that time.

The total number of active cases is currently at 6,544, with more than 125,000 Tasmanians now having recovered from COVID-19.

The number of people in hospital with COVID is 40, with 14 of these being treated specifically for COVID. There is currently one person in ICU.

Sadly, I can confirm that a female in her 70s has passed away at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

I extend my sincere condolences to the woman’s family, friends, and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

We are continuing to see day to day fluctuations in case numbers, but overall, cases have been trending downwards across the last seven days compared to the peak seen earlier this month.

Our hospitalisations remain among the lowest in the nation, and we expect to see the number of people in hospital for COVID decline over the next few weeks.

However, the most important thing Tasmanians can do is to continue to roll up their sleeves and get your vaccination or your booster if it’s due, to keep themselves and the community safe and continue to practice COVID safe behaviours.

Importantly, we encourage those parents/guardians of children aged 5-11 years who have not yet been vaccinated to find time during the remaining days of school holidays to get their first or second dose.

Vaccinations continue to be available at the following state-run clinics:

  • Clarence High School, 29-30 April, 9am-4:30pm
  • The Don Centre, Devonport, 27- 28 April, 9am-3pm;
  • Montrose Bay High School, Glenorchy 27-30 April, 9am-4:30pm;
  • PWI, Hobart, 27-29 April, 9am-4:30pm;
  • Baden Powell Hall, Huonville, 30 April, 9am-3:30pm;
  • The Old Transit Centre, Launceston, 28-29 April, 9am-4:30pm;
  • Rosny Park Bowls Club, today 27 April, 9am-4:45pm;
  • Scottsdale Squash Centre, 30 April, 9am-12pm; and
  • Sorell School, 1 May, 9am-12pm.

Tasmanians six months and older (or parents) are being encouraged to consider having a flu shot with mid-April suggested as the best time to have this, so I encourage you to make a booking now with their local pharmacy or GP.

Our state-run vaccination clinics are also delivering flu vaccines to critical workers and their families (aged 5 years and over) with Burnie, Devonport, Hobart and Launceston to offer vaccines for eligible Tasmanians this coming Saturday, 30 April between 8:45am – 4:15pm.
