There are 465 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – with 35 active cases in ICU, including 18 on a ventilator, and an additional 31 cleared cases in ICU.
5,846,420 vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 10,221 administered yesterday at state-run centres. 429 of the doses administered yesterday were for children aged 5 to 11 years.
51.4 per cent of Victorians aged 18 and over have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 93.7 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have had two doses. 52.6 per cent of Victorians aged between 5 and 11 years have had one dose.
7,104 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded yesterday. This includes:
- 5,046 who tested positive on a Rapid Antigen Test
- 2,058 who returned a positive result on a PCR test.
Sadly, the Department was notified yesterday of two deaths of people aged in their 70s and 80s. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 2,286.
There are 53,707 active cases in Victoria.
14,846 PCR tests were processed yesterday. The total number of PCR tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 19,227,531.

Third vaccine dose
The data is clear that getting your third dose will significantly reduce your chances of going to hospital, going to ICU or dying from COVID-19.
If you are yet to get your third dose, it’s easier than ever – just walk-in or book at a state-run centre, or head to a participating local GP or pharmacy near you.
Of cases 18+ in ICU on Tuesday 8 Feb:
- People with 0 doses made up 28.9 per cent of cases in ICU, yet they made up 5.1 per cent (or approximately 268,260 people) of the general adult population on 8 Feb.
- People with only 2 doses made up 60.5 per cent of cases in ICU, yet they made up 47.8 per cent (or 251,5471 people) of the general adult population on 8 Feb.
- People with 3 doses made up 7.9 per cent of cases in ICU, yet they made up 45.9 per cent (or 2413291 people) of the general adult population on 8 Feb.
Therefore, when calculating relative rates and risks of cases in ICU on 8 Feb (number of cases in ICU/Number in general population x 100):
- Someone who was unvaccinated was 4.5 times more likely to be in ICU than someone who had received two doses.
- Someone who was unvaccinated was more than 34 times more likely to be in ICU than someone who had received three doses.
- Someone with two doses was 7.6 times more likely to be in ICU than someone who had had three doses.
Of cases hospitalised during the Omicron wave (all cases from 1 Jan 2022 onwards):
Daily hospitalisations per 100,000 people:
- People with three doses: 0.5 persons
- People with two doses: 2.3 persons
- People with zero doses: 3.08 persons
Therefore, based on these rates:
- Someone with three doses is about 6 times less likely than an unvaccinated person to go to hospital with COVID-19
- Someone with three doses is about 4.5 times less likely than someone with two doses to go to hospital with COVID-19.
Of deaths during the Omicron wave (all from 1 Jan 2022 onwards) and accounting for age and sex:
- People with COVID-19 are 88 per cent less likely to die if they have had 3 doses of vaccine compared to someone of their own age with 0 or 1 doses
- People with COVID-19 are 66 per cent less likely to die if they have had 2 doses of vaccine compared to someone of their own age with 0 or 1 doses.
