Coronavirus update for Victoria 7 February 2022

There are 638 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – with 43 active cases in ICU, including 26 on a ventilator, and an additional 29 cleared cases in ICU.

5,742,626 vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 13,486 administered yesterday at state-run centres. 1,111 of the doses administered yesterday were for children aged 5 to 11.

45.5 per cent of Victorians aged 18 and over have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 93.6 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have had two doses. 49.6 per cent of Victorians between 5 and 11 have had one dose.

8,275 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded yesterday. This includes:

  • 5,967 who tested positive on a Rapid Antigen Test
  • 2,308 who returned a positive result on a PCR test.

Sadly, the Department was notified yesterday of seven deaths of people aged in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 2,178.

There are 59,801 active cases in Victoria.

16,338 PCR tests were processed yesterday. The total number of PCR tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 19,080,016.

Third doses for 16 to 17-year-olds

In just the first four days since they were made eligible, 7,954 Victorian 16 to 17-year-olds have received their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine at state-run clinics, GPs and pharmacies.

All Victorian state-run vaccination centres are able to vaccinate eligible 16 to 17-year-olds with their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The third dose for this age group is the adult Pfizer vaccine given three months after the second dose, as recommended by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.
