Victoria was notified of 2,297 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All were locally acquired cases.
This is the highest daily number of cases recorded in Victoria since the pandemic began.
There are 20,505 active cases in Victoria.
There are 706 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria. 147 of those cases are in intensive care, with 100 cases on a ventilator. Of the people in hospital yesterday, 90 per cent were not fully vaccinated
Sadly, the Department was notified of 11 deaths yesterday:
- A man in his 80s from Brimbank
- A woman in her 80s and a woman in her 70s, both from Knox
- A man in his 70s from Greater Shepparton
- A man in his 70s, a man in his 60s, and a man in his 50s, all from Hume
- A man in his 70s, and a man in his 60s, both from Melton
- A man in his 60s from Moreland
- A man in his 50s from Moonee Valley
This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 945.
The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 59,710.
Change in travel permit zone for the ACT
The Acting Chief Health Officer has declared that from 11.59pm tonight, Thursday 14 October, the ACT will move from a Red Zone to an Orange Zone.
From tomorrow, anyone who has been in the ACT who travels to Victoria will no longer be required to quarantine for 14 days. They will need to test within 72 hours after arriving in Victoria and isolate until they receive a negative test result.
This change aligns with the lifting of lockdown in the ACT from 11.59pm tonight.
Update: Restrictions

The Rural City of Mildura is in lockdown with restrictions the same as those in metropolitan Melbourne (excluding the curfew).

Vaccines
Yesterday, 37,611 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services.
The total number of doses administered through state-run services is 4,046,471.
87.6 per cent of Victorians aged 16 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 62 per cent have had two doses. This excludes most recent Commonwealth data.
Victoria is opening neighbourhood pop-up vaccination centres in suburban streets, shops, gyms and community clubs: Local vax pop-ups coming to streets and shops across city
The small, targeted pop-ups are designed to vaccinate 20 to 30 people a session. Suburbs in scope for neighbourhood pop-ups are concentrated in Melbourne’s mid and outer north, west and south east.
From tomorrow and through the weekend, the Department is partnering with the Melbourne Football Club to run a pop-up vaccination site at the second home of the Melbourne Demons at Casey Fields. The site will be offering Pfizer and Moderna vaccines with both bookings and walk-ups available.

Within yesterday’s cases, there are 1245 newly impacted households which previously did not have COVID-19 present. Overall, 63 per cent of all of yesterday’s cases were aged under 40 years and 46 per cent were aged under 30 years.

There are currently more than 56,500 active primary close contacts in isolation in Victoria.
At midday today, there were around 160 published exposure sites in Victoria.

There may be occasions when the Department is unable to make contact with a business or residential premises before their listing as an exposure site. At all times, we take the decision of when to publish these sites in the interests of public health.
The Department regularly manages exposure sites that it doesn’t publish online, particularly if these sites represent lower-risk exposure, or if they have comprehensive record-keeping and contact-tracing measures, or if they identify small, private locations – including smaller apartment or townhouse complexes.

Wastewater testing
COVID-19 viral fragments have been detected in wastewater samples taken from the following regional areas:
- Horsham – unexpected detection between 10 and 12 October.
- Inverloch – unexpected detection between 7 and 11 October.
- Lakes Entrance – unexpected detection between 6 and 11 October.
- Mallacoota – unexpected detection between 5 and 11 October.
- Bendigo – repeated unexpected detections in areas that include parts of Huntly, Epsom, Strathdale, Kangaroo Flat and Maiden Gully between 7 and 12 October.
- Cobram – repeated unexpected detections between 29 September and 12 October.
- Apollo Bay – repeated unexpected detections between 28 September and 8 October.
- Ballarat – repeated unexpected detections in areas that include parts of Mitchell Park and Wendouree between 3 and 7 October.
The detections could be an undiscovered new case or cases or could be the result of one or more people in these areas who have recovered from COVID-19 but are still shedding the virus.
Anyone who lives in, works in or has visited the areas above is urged to watch for the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop.

Testing
The number of COVID-19 tests undertaken in Victoria topped 80,000 for the first time yesterday.
In total, 82,762 COVID-19 tests were processed in Victoria.
