Correctives officer charged after allegedly impersonating a police officer, NSW

A Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged after allegedly impersonating a police officer to get a discount at a fast food restaurant.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were contacted following reports a man, who purported to be an off-duty police officer, demanded a discount at a fast food restaurant about 12.40pm on Saturday (29 December 2018).

Their inquiries revealed the man was an employee of Corrective Services NSW. The matter was then referred to the State Crime Command’s Corrective Services Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 43-year-old man at Surry Hills cells about 10.40am yesterday (Monday 31 December 2018).

He was charged with impersonating a police officer and obtain a benefit by deception.

The man has been granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 22 January 2019.

He was also notified his employment with Corrective Services NSW has been suspended.
